Mons, Belgium - Gareth Johnson

In the heart of Belgium you will find the city of Mons. Crowned as the European Capital of Culture for 2015, if you ever needed a nudge to visit this part of the world then this is it.

You could describe the activity associated with being a European Capital of Culture as kind of festival, but that is vastly under-stating it. Mons is not only playing host to a huge program of cultural events and performances, but has also embarked on massive investments in cultural infrastructure and exploring ways to create a sustainable legacy from this unique opportunity to embark on a cultural transformation.

The team behind the year of Capital of Culture activity in Mons has divided the program into four distinct seasons. We visited in May which was the middle of season two – categorized as The Metamorphosis.
