Thousands Celebrate Cairns Tropical Pride
ORGANISERS of the Cairns Tropical Pride Festival say there is growing acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the Far North as this year’s event draws to a close.
Yesterday, thousands flooded through the Tanks Arts Centre gates for Fair Day, which featured market stalls, a dog show, roller derby demonstrations, face painting and live performances.
A “drag” race was also staged for the first time and hotly contested by men and women, who dashed across the concrete catwalk to don wigs, dresses, high heels and handbags.
