Organizers at the annual Gay Days Anaheim are back, and they're busy planning this year's big event.
Gay Days proper was shelved last year because of the pandemic. There was the annual mini meet-up, but thanks to new COVID guidelines, Disneyland has re-opened and therefore a regular Gay Days 2021 can move forward.
This year the officially unofficial Disneyland recognized function will be held on Sept. 17-19. Normally, Gay Days happens in October, but Disney asked producers to please move the event to September after their Halloween crowds began to increase over the past decade.
For over 20 years LGBTQ men and women have flocked to Gay Days for a weekend of entertainment, games, and Disney-themed excursions. The on-property Disney Grand Californian Hotel is the hub of activity with its ballrooms and meeting halls used as entertainment venues.
On Friday, Broadway superstars Audra McDonald and Chita Rivera will attend for an intimate night of singing and storytelling.
Friday is also arrival day where the ubiquitous Gay Days red t-shirts can be purchased along with the official collector's pin (free to VIP ticketholders) and itinerary. Then on Saturday, it's an entire day at Disneyland while Sunday is saved for California Adventure.
VIP tickets are sold in both Gold and Silver which have their own perks, including drag entertainment, the pool party, and Kingdom; the dance celebration held at The House of Blues.
Tickets to the parks and headliners are sold separately. However, Gay Days offers park tickets at discounted prices. Anyone can attend Gay Days at Disneyland Resort even if they don't go through organizers, but they will have to pay park admissions at the normal rate.
As for COVID safety rules, attendees will be required to wear masks indoors on Disney properties and indoors during the Gay Days events. Ticketholders for Gay Days are also required to have been vaccinated.
Keep in mind, there are plenty of other gatherings that don't require tickets.
