Huon Bush Retreats is set in an extensive private nature reserve just fifty minutes drive south of Hobart, near Huonville in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. They offer a true retreat in a peaceful and secluded environment with accommodation for couples and families, including self-contained studio and two bedroom cabins, tipees, and campgrounds. Nearby is a 5km bush walking track network, an abundance of wildlife on your doorstep, and a sample of the fine food and wine of the Huon Trail region.

Big Tree Cabin is a self-contained studio cabin with gas cooking facilities, kitchen/dining/lounge area, en-suite bathroom, a cozy wood heater and a private deck with an outdoor bath. Ideally suited for couples it is equipped with a queen-sized bed. A single trundle and a sofa bed are also available.
Wallaby Grassland is a contemporary, spacious eco-cabin situated in an open Silver Wattle forest with outdoor space for children to play. This is a generous two-bedroom cabin with gas cooking facilities, kitchen, dining and lounge area, bathroom and separate toilet, wood heater, a large deck and upstairs balcony. Treat yourself to an outdoor bath under the stars in a private setting, just a short walk away on the edge of the forest. Wallaby Grassland can sleep up to ten people: the main bedroom has a queen-sized bed and double bunks, while the large upstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed, two single beds and an optional trundle bed. This cabin can be reconfigured as a large open plan meeting space. With level access and wheel-in bathroom with grab rails, shower seat and raised toilet, Wallaby Grassland meets mobility disability standards.
The Tipees are strong timber and canvas construction which has allowed them to be constructed on the edge of natural bushland without major clearings. This gives privacy and a close connection with the peaceful surroundings. Inside, the Tipees are very homely, with a couch that converts to a double bed, high-quality carpet, coffee table, CD player, linen rack and a cozy wood fire. There’s also a small covered deck outside the front door for you to enjoy a drink or snack regardless of the weather.
Showers and toilets are at the modern campground amenities block less than one minute walk from your tipee. The campground also features our famous outdoor bath for two. This bath is shared among tipee and campground guests and runs on a booking system.
The shared camp kitchen is well equipped for self catering. Most items are supplied including cutlery, crockery, utensils and pots. The gas range has a full sized oven. Here is the place to enjoy the company of an open fire. The 12 volt solar electricity system runs the lights and supplied CD player. All tipees are free from television and 240 volt electricity. They can charge small 240 volt appliances at reception.
Huon Bush Retreats campground is not your average campground. They offer unpowered tent and campervan sites in an extensive habitat reserve with modern, spacious amenities, all the equipment you’ll need to cook up a storm, a five kilometre network of bushwalks and the opportunity for an outdoor bath under the stars. Each tent site is private and surrounded by Huon Bush Retreat’s protected native forest. Separate campervan sites provide level parking for a comfortable nights sleep, are located close to amenities and are also surrounded by native bushland.
From strolling in the majestic ancient tree ferns to the invigorating summit hike, the spectacular native forest is just moments from your cabin, tipee or campsite. Guests are encouraged to take the time to explore the wide range of walks. There are four bushwalking tracks and a labyrinth walk.
