A mere 1.5 hour drive from Taupo over the ranges that lead to a Mediterranean climate, Hawkes Bay has long hot summers as well as clear blue skies in the middle of winter. Hawkes Bay is one of the sunniest regions of New Zealand. Sheltered by ranges to the west the landscape opens up to reveal rolling hills and fertile plains. The perfect environment for orchards and, of course, internationally acclaimed vineyards.

Long hot summers make Hawke's Bay the perfect year round holiday destination. Whether it's a romantic break, family fun in the sun, action and adrenalin, or a backpack adventure, you'll find it in Hawke's Bay. Ranging from Mahia in the North through to Porangahau in the South, the region boasts more than seventy vineyards, fabulous fresh produce and gourmet delights. Hawke's Bay also offers a wide range of activities and attractions to suit all ages, plus stunning landscapes with a unique wildlife, distinct architecture, a vibrant arts community and a rich cultural heritage.

The Napier Hill Homestay offers a gay place to stay when visiting Napier and the Hawkes Bay Region. Hosts Ross and Roger offer accommodations in their comfortable two storey home overlooking the Port of Napier and the waters of Hawkes Bay. Enjoy time in the private spa in the relaxing Japanese garden and a Continental Breakfast included in the rates. Evening Meals are available with advance booking.

This reasonably priced Bed and Breakfast homestay for gay and lesbian travellers is located in Napier with fabulous seaviews, within walking distance to the city and its famous art deco architecture, Napier Hill Homestay offers friendly comfortable accommodations with two bedrooms and guest bathroom.

There is a wonderful range of things to see and do in Hawke's Bay and here are a few suggestions:
-Take a tour or guide yourself to view the fabulous collection of Art Deco, Spanish Mission and Stripped Classical architecture in Napier and Hastings.

-Enjoy a sumptuous lunch or dinner at one of the many winery restaurants or follow the wine trail to over 35 cellar doors

-Visit the world’s largest accessible mainland Gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers. Take a super 4WD overland tour or travel along the beach on a fun filed tractor and trailer ride.

-Stroll around New Zealand’s oldest Farmers Market held in Hastings every Sunday morning. Sample fresh local produce and buy direct from the grower whilst enjoying live music and a colourful atmosphere.

-Cycle the Water and Landscape Rides. Both are part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail and link attractions, wineries and cafes by travelling through coastal scenery, lowland rivers and conservation wetlands.

-Play the ultimate round at Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, consistently ranked in the top 50 golf courses in the world.

-Walk the Lake Waikaremoana track in Te Urewera National Park, the largest area of native forest in the North Island. The 46km adventure is one of New Zealand’s 10 Great Walks.

-Get your picture taken next to the Longest Place Name in the World in the heartland of Central Hawke’s Bay

-Drive, walk or bike to the top of Te Mata Peak in Havelock North. Standing 400 metres above sea level the Peak offers breathtaking 360° views of Hawke’s Bay

-Take a trip to sacred pa site Hakikino with Waimarama Maori Tours. Learn the history of the land and its people and participate in traditional cultural activities.

With an annual average of 2200, sunshine hours are high, while rainfall and humidity are low. In fact, Hawkes Bay has the second highest sunshine hours and the lowest rainfall in the North Island. Whatever time of the year you visit, you're pretty much guaranteed to have sunny, dry weather - perfect for exploring this stunning region.
