The “City by the Bay” attracts millions of tourists each year. For many gay and lesbian travelers, it’s the gay grail of vacation destinations – for a lot of well deserved reasons.  From romanctic getaways to weddings & honeymoons, from fitness and fun experiences to foodie events and venues.

And gay life is alive and well from suburban communities to the colorful and cohesive Castro District. Doesn’t everyone in the world know “The Castro” is the cultural center of the city’s LGBT community.  There are a lot of reasons for making the Castro part of a San Francisco escape.

Some of the annual Gay and Lesbian and iconic events that draw extra LGBT visitors include:

  • Mid-May to early June: San Francisco International Arts Festival
  • Late May: Carnaval San Francisco Festival and Grand Parade (a festive Latin/Caribbean celebration in the Mission)
  • Late June: San Francisco International GLBT Film Festival
  • Late June: San Francisco Gay Pride
  • Late July: Up Your Alley (leather pride event similar to Folsom Street Fair)
  • Late Sept.: Folsom Street Fair (world’s largest leather event)
  • Early Oct.: Castro Street Fair
