    The Catlins area is a natural retreat where wilderness and farmland coexist, where beech and podocarp can be found in the rainforest from hilltops to the coast, with abundant native bird life. The headlands and beaches of the varied coast are home to sub-antarctic wildlife such as yellow-eyed penguins, petrels, and sea lions. The Catlins is a place for those who love nature to stay a while and enjoy the freedom and exploration of the many outdoor attractions. Here you can enjoy the Catlins Forest, Catlins Coast, Cathedral Caves, Invercargill about 1.3 hours away, mountains, waterfalls, the most beautiful forest and New Zealand's Bush country. The “Southern Scenic Route” of New Zealand winds through the Catlins from Nugget Point to Curio Bay and on to Invercargill.

    Beautiful Views

    Catlins Wildlife Trackers offer self-contained cottages in the Catlins and the eco-friendly accommodation at Mohua Park are newly built luxury energy efficient cottages overlooking the rural landscape of the Catlins River Valley. Centrally located for walks, birding, trout fishing and scenic explorations of the Catlins Mohua Park eco-cottages are designed for two people, but pull-down divans in the living area allow up to four people in a cottage with a curtain room divider. The Mohua Park eco-cottages are TV and phone-free zones of peace and quiet, they provide stunning self catering accommodation retreats in the heart of the Catlins. All the cottages have views over the Catlins River valley, forest, and farmland.

    Mohua Park has opened one of the lovely double bedrooms in the historic house for Bed and Breakfast guests. The bedroom is large with a king sized bed and good selection of books. The morning sun shines through the French doors which provide an outlook to garden and forest where the dawn chorus of birds is a welcome start to the day. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. Guests have their own spacious bathroom. The many forest walks and the gardens are freely available at all times to B&B guests and also the Mohua Information Centre.

    Bed and Breakfast guests are welcome to use the library and laundry facilities at the main house, and also the wireless internet. Continental breakfast is included in the price. Evening meals, and picnic lunches are available on request and also half day and full day guided tours with experienced guides can be arranged.

    Comfortable Spaces

    The Catlins, situated on the bottom east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, is like stepping back in time. The unspoilt forest, coastlines, stunning waterfalls, and short hiking tracks will keep any visitor busy exploring.
