At any time of the year The Blue Mountains is a magical Australian nature get-away—glowing in autumn, cool in winter, colourful in spring, and refreshing in summer. The Blue Mountains is densely populated by oil bearing Eucalyptus trees. The atmosphere is filled with finely dispersed droplets of Eucalyptus oil, which, in combination with dust particles and water vapour, scatter short-wave length rays of light which are predominantly blue in colour. The Greater Blue Mountains was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000 and was one of fifteen World Heritage places included in the National Heritage List on 21 May 2007. The Kanimbla Valley is a recreation wonderland in the western sector of the Blue Mountains.
MOK’S Rural Retreat is nestled on 125 serene acres, which are part of the Glen Shea Wild Life Sanctuary, in the breathtaking Kanimbla Valley. There are five acres of young olive trees as well as forested areas providing a home to kangaroos and swamp wallabies. MOK’S can be found just west of the Blue Mountains’ towns of Mt Victoria and Blackheath. It is a leisurely 2.5 hour drive from downtown Sydney, and there is just enough dirt road to give you the feeling that you’re really in the bush. Here you will find the perfect do nothing escape for those who want the seclusion of a rural retreat. It’s a fully catered holiday so you have nothing to do but relax.
MOK’S is centrally located to Bathurst, Orange, Oberon, Jenolan Caves and the scenic Blue Mountains plus it is close to the renowned Six Foot Track. The staff are happy to pick hikers up from the half-way campground and return them to their walk, well rested and watered. They can also arrange a custom visit including pick-up from mountain railway stations and escort you around the local sites. It’s an ideal way for international visitors to see the rural area as well as the mountains.
Primary accommodation is in the Cabana, sleeping one or two people. This is located below the Homestead and only a couple of steps away from the eleven metre swimming pool. Facing north, this warm and cozy hideaway soaks up the winter sun. In the summer the pool is at your doorstep and is there for your private use 24 hours a day. MOK’S is a non-smoking environment and does not cater for children.
The Cabana features a queen sized bed, kitchenette, and en-suite bathroom. The lounge area has a television and stereo. Bring your favorite movies and music, or select from the Homestead’s extensive library. Secondary accommodation is in the Homestead and sleeps two. If you are travelling with friends and are comfortable with a common bathroom then up to three couples can be accommodated in the Homestead. Usually four guests are the most people staying overnight.
MOK’S Rural Retreat is a fully catered holiday with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included in the room rates. Supper will be provided on the first day if you arrive in the evening. A hearty breakfast is served in the main house, or a continental breakfast can be provided in the Cabana, if ordered the night before, should you prefer a more leisurely start to the day. Communal meals are served in the Homestead’s ‘Great Room’. The famous tasty and wholesome meals are served ‘family style’. If you plan a day touring locally, a picnic hamper can be prepared for you upon request.
The Great Room is available for relaxation by guests at all times. During the winter a roaring log fire keeps you toasty warm. You can also enjoy the cozy TV lounge area with its own fireplace.
For a weekend or week day retreat, or a special lunch with a group of friends, MOK’S Rural Retreat provides that “something completely different” touch.
